The Beatles eighth single came out on this day 56 years ago, wrapped and ready to fill Christmas stockings up and down the land. Four days earlier the boys had made a promotional film, taping two performances of the song using various bits of gym equipment as props. The second version was partly filmed during their lunch break and featured the the Beatles hungrily tucking into a feast of fish and chips. Brian Epstein, unhappy with idea, insisted that this take was left ‘in the can’ and so it was – with the handy label ‘I Feel Fried’. Both versions were included on the three-disc release of the 2015 DVD release 1.
